Virginia Tech and East Carolina squared off in the 2008 season opener in Charlotte and the Pirates stunned the Hokies 27-22, thanks in part to a late blocked punt by ECU. It turned out to be one of ECUs biggest wins in history and deflated the Hokies and ultimately caused the redshirt of Tyrod Taylor to come off. Last year, the Hokies got their revenge and salvaged a season that was going south after a 2 game losing season when they beat ECU in Greenville 16-3. The Hokies won that game mainly with stiffing season.
