A few days ago, I wrote about how Virginia Tech needed some help at the quarterback position, especially here in the 2014 season. Today, various media outlets confirmed that Texas Tech quarterback Michael Brewer will indeed transfer to Virginia Tech after meeting with Scot Loeffler this weekend.

Brewer only played in four games this past season thanks to a back injury that kept him from competing directly for the starting job in fall practice. He finished the year 7-10 passing for 65 yards and 1 TD. In 2012, Brewer saw action in nine games going 34-48 for 375 yards and 4 TDs. He has not thrown an interception in his entire career, which is impressive.

In high school, the Texas signal caller was part of four straight state championships for Lake Travis High School. He threw fro 2,865 yards as a senior, despite missing some time due to an injury. He also ran for 593 yards as well.
While Mark Leal will have the advantage of going through spring practice and running with the 1st string unit, Brewer will add some major competition once he enrolls in either May or June. He is a more mobile option behind center and has arguably a stronger arm than Leal. There’s little doubt that the quarterback competition this fall when both arrive in camp is going to be electric.
