Virginia Tech has hired former Marquette Golden Eagles basketball coach Buzz Williams. The deal is reportedly for $18 million for seven years. I personally think this was a great hire for the Hokies. I hope he can bring over the success he had at Marquette to Virginia Tech, because we really need it. Only time will tell, but for now I am very excited to see what the future holds for the Hokies basketball program.
In his time at Marquette, Williams was 139-65 in his six seasons. Of those six seasons the Golden Eagles made a tournament appearance five times. In 2013, they made it to the Elite Eight, while in 2011 and 2012 making it to the Sweet 16. Williams will hopefully bring that type of success to Blacksburg.

I really feel like this was a great hire. I think Buzz will help Virginia Tech get where they want to be. As I have stated before, it is still going to be a process and it will take some time. I believe he can greatly improve this team as it is, but to set the bar too high right of the bat is not fair. He will need time to rebuild this program his way. Along with that, he will need to implement his system and have time to get the guys he wants for that system. I definitely think Whit Babcock made a great hire. Not only did he hire someone with a great track record, but also some one that will generate some "buzz" (no pun intended) and some much needed excitement for this program. I, for one, am very excited for our basketball program (for the first time in several years) and cannot wait to see where he can take us in a few years.
