Virginia Tech has hired former Marquette Golden Eagles basketball coach Buzz Williams. The deal is reportedly for $18 million for seven years. I personally think this was a great hire for the Hokies. I hope he can bring over the success he had at Marquette to Virginia Tech, because we really need it. Only time will tell, but for now I am very excited to see what the future holds for the Hokies basketball program.

In his time at Marquette, Williams was 139-65 in his six seasons. Of those six seasons the Golden Eagles made a tournament appearance five times. In 2013, they made it to the Elite Eight, while in 2011 and 2012 making it to the Sweet 16.  Williams will hopefully bring that type of success to Blacksburg.

I really feel like this was a great hire. I think Buzz will help Virginia Tech get where they want to be. As I have stated before, it is still going to be a process and it will take some time. I believe he can greatly improve this team as it is, but to set the bar too high right of the bat is not fair. He will need time to rebuild this program his way. Along with that, he will need to implement his system and have time to get the guys he wants for that system. I definitely think Whit Babcock made a great hire. Not only did he hire someone with a great track record, but also some one that will generate some "buzz" (no pun intended) and some much needed excitement for this program. I, for one, am very excited for our basketball program (for the first time in several years) and cannot wait to see where he can take us in a few years.

Any chance we get malek Harris and sandy Cohen? They would be nice pick ups. We are thin at point and although malek has some baggage he is a 17 year old kid, and odviously buzz believes he is a good kid. Thoughts?

Very good hire. The new AD gets it, Weaver did his best to destroy VT athletics and fans have paid for his lack of knowledge of today’s intercollegiate athletics. I also wanted to bring up some insight to Buzz’s decision to come to VT. His state of Virginia connections got in his ear…. 14 years ago Richie McKay the current UVA #1 assistant, was the HC at Colorado State where Dale Layer was the #1 Assistant coach. Coach McKay moved on and Coach Layer took over at CSU and hired Buzz on a recommendation from McKay. Buzz stayed a couple of years before getting a HC job and then went on to Marquette in 2007. In 2008, Layer was fired and Buzz hired him as his #1 assistant at Marquette (his best year there). MacKay later went to Liberty and left for UVA at which time Liberty hired Layer. So the story comes full circle now…and all three are coaching a couple of hours down the road from one another. But don’t be surprised if one day Layer ends up at VT and McKay goes back to Liberty…..just saying

There isn’t much to report right now. TJ Lang has reopened his recruitment and Buzz had offered a few guys, but the April signing period for basketball doesn’t start tell later this month so we won’t know much until then. In regards to football, there is a junior day this weekend (Ricky DeBerry and Josh Sweat are already going to be there others will come out closer to Saturday) and an open scrimmage is in the afternoon. But for day to day information I would recommend going to our forum page. Anything on recruiting; Bball and football? Who we lead for? Positions of need? Spring practice so far?

Will VT win a national championship before Beamer leaves?

Go Hokies!!!

Recruiting wise it has been quiet. Their was a camp last week and the spring game is coming up so there may be some news after the spring game. We are in good position for a lot of the in state guys but we have to get them back on campus and close the deal. Motley has passed Leal on the most recent depth chart release. And I hope Tech will win one before he leaves. It looks like they are gearing up to make a run in 2014 and 2016. But check the forum page for day to day updates. The link is in the comment above yours.
