Since the schedule was released, every Virginia Tech fan pointed to the North Carolina game as being the best opportunity for a major recruiting weekend. While North Carolina hasn’t exactly kept up their end of the bargain, starting the season just 1-3, the Hokies are still going to host a lot of major talent on campus this Saturday. A few 2014 recruits will be taking their official visits while several other 2014 and 2015 players will be making unofficial visits.
Below are a few of the more notable recruits that will be on campus this Saturday.
5* DT Tim Settle (2015)
Ever since the Hokies landed defensive back Greg Stroman out of Manassas, VA, Tech has moved up on 2015 five star Tim Settle’s list. While Tech may still be a little bit of a longshot, having Settle visit for a game is huge for the 2015 class. Currently, UVA is considered the favorite here but the Hokies have an excellent shot to impress the big-time prospect from northern Virginia. Let’s hope Settle enjoys the game on Saturday, the campus, and all of that yummy Virginia Tech food.
4* DT Ricky Walker
Truth be told, I have a feeling that four star Ricky Walker is down to Penn State and Virginia Tech. Walker will take his 2nd official visit (1st one was to Nebraska) this Saturday to Blacksburg and this could give Virginia Tech a chance to close this recruitment out with a commitment. I think the odds of that happening are doubtful since I see Walker following through with all of his visits. But, a visit here is huge and it could reposition the Hokies as his clear-cut leader.
3* WR Isaiah Ford (Louisville commit)
For some, Isaiah Ford may be an unknown but the Hokies recruited him heavily in the spring before he made an early commit to Louisville. Now, the Florida native is rethinking his decision and the Hokies have presented him with a very intriguing option. Ford is a very good basketball player who wants to play both sports in college. The Hokies have told him he could do just that at Virginia Tech and Tech basketball coach James Johnson seems eager to add him as well. Obviously, you can’t blame Johnson since he would pick up a talented player without having to use one of his 13 scholarship offers.
Granted, Ford will be a tough sway from Louisville, who is still recruiting him hard. But, this is a big visit for both sides and hopefully, Tech can roll out the red carpet and perhaps convince Ford to switch allegiances.

3* WR Kendrick Holland
Ford won’t be the only Florida wide receiver taking an official visit on Saturday, as physical 6’4” receiver Kendrick Holland will join him. Holland has narrowed his list to Virginia Tech and Kentucky. As it stands, he plans on visiting both schools before making a decision. Right now, the Hokies seem to have the advantage and a good visit on Saturday could work wonders here.
3* LB Melvin Keihn
Early in the spring, I detailed Melvin Keihn, who hails from Maryland, as a potential option at MIKE linebacker for the Hokies. Right now, Tech may be recruiting him as defensive jumbo athlete, meaning he could play either linebacker or defensive end. The Hokies are firmly in his top three with Virginia and Maryland but the exact order of those schools is unknown. Kiehn grew up a Virginia Tech fan so hopefully a good visit on Saturday puts the Hokies on top for good.
NR LB Jacorian Payton
The Hokies will once again play host to talented inside linebacker Jacorian Payton, who is prepping this semester down in Georgia. Payton has been in contact with the staff and the Hokies are just waiting on transcripts from him. If his grades are good, Payton will likely get an offer. If he can’t get his grades up then Tech will likely move on.
I’m sure more names will be added to this list by the end of the week, as this should be a big week for the 2015 class as well.
