The current attendance record for a college football game is 115,000 (and some change) but if all goes well; the Hokies will top that in 2016 at more than 160,000-plus. If that doesn’t get your blood flowing this afternoon then maybe this video will.
In 2016, the Hokies will hopefully be a rebuilt program with a lot of junior and senior talent. For those wondering, our current freshmen will be seniors and redshirt juniors that year. If Tech can figure out their quarterback situation going forward then Tech should be a powerhouse entering that season. At least, that is the plan.
According to Frank Beamer, he too would like to stick around to coach the Hokies for this game but admits that his long-term health will ultimately decide that.

Overall, this is going to be a special event. While I’m not overly excited at the seat I will likely get for this game (check out this picture that Andy Bitter tweeted from the press box) but it will be a once in a lifetime event. Every Virginia Tech and Tennessee fan should make an effort to attend. Not only to support your school and your team but to make this a historic college football event. Nothing would be worse than to promote this only to have 60,000 empty seats come kickoff.
For those who like looking at future schedules, Tech’s 2016 slate couldn’t be any better. The Hokies will likely kickoff the year versus Liberty at home before playing Tennessee at Bristol Motor Speedway. Tech will then East Carolina at home the following weekend before heading out to South Bend to play the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame for the first time.
The ACC slate leaves a little to be desired but Miami, UVA, Boston College, and Georgia Tech will be the home dates with North Carolina, Duke, Syracuse, and Pittsburgh being our away games.
