2010.08.07 11.03.29 04651 300x199 Virginia Tech Practice Updates: Day 3The Hokies hit the practice field for the 3rd time this afternoon.  We have gathered quite a few tweets and updates from this afternoon.  Also, I have a few notes to add as well inside.

* There's a tweet listed below saying that Nick Acree has put himself in position for some playing time.  Judging from his play in the spring, this isn't overly surprising.  It's clear that he is our strongest lineman and once he got the technique down, he would at least have a chance to see the field.  That seems to be the case.  I'll try to get a look at Acree next Saturday when I head up to watch the Hokies open scrimmage.  But, this is very positive news especially since we'll have to replace our top three offensive tackles after this season.

* As it stands, I don't think DJ Coles is going to play against Georgia Tech.  Things can change but it seems like it's going to take another 4-6 weeks for him to finish healing from his off-season surgery.  He still seems to be moving gingerly.

* It was announced today that walk-on Carl Jackson has moved up to 2nd string at cornerback.  This can be taken two ways.  Either our two true freshmen that enrolled in July aren't picking up their assignments as quickly as we had hoped or Jackson is actually a good option and he's earning this chance.  We'll have to wait and see how this plays out.  I still think either Davion Tookes or Donovan Riley plays this fall.

Alright, here are some practice tweets.

Pretty good. I really like Bonner and Jarrett. They just need to get some snaps under their belts and they’ll be fine. RVD is going to play a lot this fall. I’ll be able to report more on them after that first scrimmage next Saturday.

We are going to have the nastiest D-Line in the country we need McCray and Justin Taylor to step up…. Zack McCray need to take that next step this year.
