With 31 days left until the Virginia Tech battles Georgia Tech, we turn our attention to one of the numberless Hokies on roster Mr. Nick Bush. Bush is fighting the good fight as a walk-on here at Virginia Tech. Odds are, the Lebanon, Virginia native will serve as the Hokies 4th string CB this fall behind both Chris Caver and Carl Jackson. With experience at nearly every position in the secondary, at the very least Bush will be a valuable asset on the scout team this fall.

The Scoop
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 177 lbs
Position: Cornerback
Year: R-Sophomore
High School: Lebanon High School
How Did He Get Here?
Bush was an All-District, All-Region, and All-State player his senior year of high school while leading his team to a region title. However, with his lack of size, not many colleges showed interest in the Virginia native. The Hokies swung through last fall with a walk-on offer and Bush quickly accepted it.
2011 Season Rewind
Weirdly enough, Hokiesports.com has Bush redshirting last season as a true sophomore.
2012 Prediction
These are always the toughest articles to write for me just because I don’t have access to talk to a lot of the walk-ons, or any of the players for that matter. Bush is probably a great kid who is living his dream by playing for the Hokies. So, you can’t fault a guy for trying to make it at a higher level even if he could potentially garner more playing time at a school like JMU or ODU.
As for the Hokies depth at defensive back, I think that’s one of the more critical areas to our success this fall. If our starting four plays in all 14 games, then I can see another 11 or maybe even a 12-win season this year. However, if Kyle Fuller or Antone Exum has to miss time for whatever reason, I don’t exactly know how we’ll adjust to that. My guess is Bud Foster and Torrian Gray would elect to move Bonner back to cornerback and let Boye Aromire slide in and start at free safety. Or, if the coaches have enough trust in Donaldven Manning then keep Bonner at safety and just go with the true freshman. Either way,
this is one group that cannot afford any injuries this year.
Completely Made Up Fact
During this past summer, Nick spent most of his down time clearing brush and talking about the good ole days with Uncle George. Needless to say, you can see the family resemblance.

This may be old news but I thought I read somewhere that last year Clemson knew our call signals so essentially they knew what plays we were going to run on offensive. Is there any truth to that?
I think Steinspring has 3 or 4 plays… so its not totally suprising they were able to nail down our play calling…
Wow, Bud’d putting a lot of pressure on RVD…
