With 50 days left until Virginia Tech takes the field against Appalachian State, we turn our attention to number 50 on the roster, Mr. Collin Carroll. Carroll entered Virginia Tech with high expectations especially since the Hokies offered him a scholarship out of high school. After four years, it’s easy to say that Carroll has lived up to those expectations. He’s been our starting long snapper on both set of special teams since he was a redshirt freshman.

How Did He Get Here

Tech doesn’t often go up to Minnesota for a commitment but they did back in 2008 (also did it again this past class with James Furrow). Carroll held a few walk-on offers from schools from around the country but the Hokies were the first to offer him a scholarship. He accepted on an official visit to Virginia Tech and committed to the Hokies on January 19th, 2007.

2010 Season

Carroll played in every game last season, snapping 133 PAT’s, field goals, and punts last season.

2011 Prospectus

The Hokies have a few other long snappers on roster but none are as reliable or as consistent as Carroll. With only a year left, it’s hard to expect anything less out of the Minnesota native. He’s been the ultimate rock at long snapper and should have a fantastic senior season. With any luck he’ll get picked up on an NFL practice squad next year but if not, he’ll always have that Virginia Tech degree to fall back on.

Career Highlight

Earning a Virginia Tech scholarship offer and not having to go to Eastern Michigan is probably a highlight for him.

Career Lowlight

The Hokies haven’t had many bad snaps recently so Carroll has avoided any lowlights so far. Let’s hope it stays that way.
