With 48 days left until Virginia Tech takes the field against Appalachian State, we turn our attention to number 48 on the roster, Mr. Justin Myer. Myer has been the Hokies starting kickoff man since his redshirt freshman season so don’t expect that to change this fall. Myer boasts a huge leg and he should improve his overall consistency on his kickoffs this fall. He’ll also continue to battle Cody Journell for the starting place kicker duties as well.

Stats
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 212 lbs
Position: Kicker
Year: R-Senior
High School: Manheim Central High School
How Did He Get Here
Myer held a few other walk-on opportunities but after visiting officially in January of 2008, he made his decision and committed to Virginia Tech.
2010 Season
The Pennsylvania native was excellent last season, finishing 4th nationally in touchbacks with 30. Myer really came into his own and did a good job keeping the ball in bounds with only four penalties in 94 kicks.
2011 Prospectus
Myer will enter this fall 2nd on the depth chart at place kicker and 1st on kickoff. He’s a strong-legged kicker that struggles with accuracy on occasion. If he could ever get his consistency down, he would win the starting place kicker duties in a heartbeat. However, Myer might just end up being Tech’s starter on the kickoff team and if that’s the case there’s no shame in that. He’s proven that he’s one of the best in the country in that aspect.
Career Highlight
Winning a starting job as a redshirt freshman has to be up there.
Career Lowlight
This just looks painful
Look A-Like
Completely made up fact
Although he ultimately chose football, Myer was actually a standout striker on the soccer field. Of course the striker is the person who kidney punches the opposing goalie making it easier to score. Don’t fact check that, I really don’t know soccer.
