With 47 days left until Virginia Tech takes the field against Appalachian State, we turn our attention to number 47 on the roster, Mr. Brian Laiti. Laiti is entering his 2nd year with the program and so far, he hasn’t made much headway at linebacker. Obviously, Laiti has the skill to succeed but he needs to continue to improve in the weight room and do a little better with the little things before he can become successful. Still, as just a redshirt freshman, the Robinson star has plenty of time to work his way up the depth chart.
Stats
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 205 lbs
Position: MIKE Linebacker
Year: R-Freshman
High School: Robinson High School
How Did He Get Here
Laiti was not a major recruit by any stretch but he did hold offers from Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Maryland, and Boston College. However, the Robinson star committed to the Hokies on July 17th, 2009.
2010 Season
Redshirted.
2011 Prospectus
The Hokies are stacked at the MIKE linebacker position with Bruce Taylor, Barquell Rivers, and Jack Tyler so odds are, Laiti won’t see much playing time this fall. However, that’s not such a bad thing. At just 205 pounds, Laiti still needs to continue his focus off the field and continue working hard in the weight room to add some much needed bulk. If he can enter next spring around 225 pounds, it may put him in a much better position to earn some playing time.
Laiti was impressive this spring but he still remains inconsistent, which is the case for most linebackers in Bud Foster’s scheme. He did intercept a pair of passes this spring and looked good in what little reps he received during the three scrimmages. He still needs to work on his drops in coverage but the kid has a bright future.
Career Highlight
Intercepting Logan Thomas once this past spring.
Career Lowlight
Being stuck behind three talented players at MIKE. Laiti will have to wait his turn if he ever wants to start here at Virginia Tech. Taylor still has two years left then after that a door may open for him to win the starting job.
Look A-Like
Completely made up fact
Laiti spent the first half of his life wanting to be a "Nerf Herder." When he realized that wasn't a real profession outside of the movie Star Wars, he took up football instead.

Is Kenneth Crawley still interested in the hokies?
I think so but I’m not sure if he has a spot left. Numbers are getting too tight. We’ll see though.
We got Thomas Smith from Lafayette High School, as Wide receiver. He commited and will grey shirt and play a season at Fort Union Military Academy and arrive at VT January 2013. It is official.
Yep, committed yesterday I’ll have an article up in a few minutes actually. This class has been really bad about committing right as I get to work haha, which was the case yesterday.
