With 44 days left until Virginia Tech takes the field against Appalachian State, we turn our attention to one of the numberless Hokies on the roster, Mr. Nick Bush. Bush entered the program this past spring as a walk-on and contributed at both Rover and Free Safety. Still, at just 164 pounds, it’s clear that Bush will need a few seasons to reach a desirable weight before he could even think about contributing to this Virginia Tech defense.

Year: Freshman
High School: Lebanon High School
How Did He Get Here
Bush was an All-District, All-Region, and All-State player his senior year of high school while leading his team to a region title. However, with his lack of size, not many colleges showed interest in the Virginia native. The Hokies swung through last fall with a walk-on offer and Bush quickly accepted it.

2011 Prospectus
I don’t think there’s been a walk-on in Virginia Tech’s history that has forgone a redshirt so its safe to assume that’s what Bush will be doing this fall. With some reps on the scout team and plenty of time to spend in the weight room, hopefully Bush can return next spring closer to 185 pounds. That would allow him to at least compete with some of the backups and create some competition at the position. While I don’t ever expect Bush to really challenge some of the scholarship players on roster, having a steady walk-on who knows how to push other players in practice is always a plus.
Career Highlight
Leading his high school team to two Regional titles during his stint at Lebanon High.
Career Lowlight
Being that walk-on that nobody has heard of.
Look A-Like
Completely made up fact
During this past summer, Nick spent most of his down time clearing brush and talking about the good ole days with Uncle George. Needless to say, you can see the family resemblance.
