184825 Recruiting Update: Aromire Commits to Virginia TechThe ball has officially started rolling on this 2011 Virginia Tech recruiting class as Adeboye Aromire, cornerback out of D.C, has verbally committed to the Hokies.  Aromire is Ricardo Young’s former teammate at H.D. Woodson high school and is the fourth player to commit to Tech from HDW since 2002 (Aromire, Young, Theodore Miller, and Roland Minor).

Aromire held six offers and chose Virginia Tech over close competition with UNC and Maryland.  The stud cornerback plans on enrolling early in January of 2011 for the spring session, which will allow him to take part in spring practice.

Recruiting Rankings

Aromire is a player who would have blown up if he attended more NIKE and recruiting camps across the area.   Instead, he stayed home because at the end of the day he had the one offer he wanted.  ESPN hasn’t ranked him yet, which means he’ll be a low-to-mid three star in their books.  Rivals has him as a 5.7 three star, which is the highest ranking you can achieve before gaining four-star supremacy.  All of this is detailed in the chart below.

Prediction Based on Film Evidence

I think Rivals.com is the only site that currently has film on Adeboye, so you’ll have to have a subscription to the site to watch it.  Adeboye is a physical corner with good vertical speed and good instincts.  Too me, he reminds me of a more physical Rashad Carmichael at this stage in his career.

I do think Aromire will need to work on his technique when he gets to Blacksburg and he’ll also need to work on his hips.  A lot of his film shows him coming up, almost like a linebacker, and making plays near the ball.  Like all young defensive backs, his coverage skills will need some work and understanding Bud Foster’s system is never easy.  However, since he is enrolling early, Aromire could easily be a starter by his sophomore season.

Cris Hill and Rashad Carmichael are both upper-classmen meaning that after his true freshman season, the top two boundary corners will have graduated and left.  If Aromire does well during spring practice, I wouldn’t be shocked if Coach Torrian Gray decided to place him in the two deep and award him some snaps next fall.  That would allow him to battle with Kyle Fuller, Detrick Bonner, and potentially Jerrodd Williams for the starting job the following spring.

Obviously, this is a long ways away and I’m just spitballin for now.  Aromire is a great pickup for the Hokies and he should be able to keep the defensive back tradition at Virginia Tech alive.

Upshot For the Rest of the Class

The Hokies are still recruiting four star CB Demetrius Nicholson out of Virginia Beach but it appears that he is  a strong UNC lean at this point.  If the Hokies can persuade him into coming here, I would imagine they would take him.  If not, then I wouldn’t be surprised if Aromire ends up being the only corner in this class.
