Despite Loss, Virginia Tech Baseball is Fun to Watch Again

virginia tech baseball Despite Loss, Virginia Tech Baseball is Fun to Watch AgainI'm a college sports fan, but let's face it, that usually means college football and college basketball. I'm a bigger Virginia Tech fan, and that means I'll watch and root for virtually any Hokie sports team. But again, its tough for you to get me to change my plans and schedule around a Virginia Tech game other than Hokie football or men's basketball.

The Virginia Tech baseball team has always been in that second tier of Hokie sports for me. But during this post-season, it has taken a huge step forward.

Yes, I actually rearranged my Memorial Day weekend schedule so that I could watch the Virginia Tech baseball team play Clemson and NC State.  I was mildly peturbed with the other ACC games ran long and overlapped, the same kind of thing you would do with football game TV conflicts.  I even told my kids they had to leave the pool early (opening weekend of being open) to get home and watch.

I can barely sit through a MLB game, but I watched the Hokies.  I found myself putting to memory the line up and positional players, the starting pitchers, and who we had in the bullpen, in the exact same way those of us who overdose on Hokie football obsess over the 2-deep.  It was especialyl good to see Sean Ryan, the Hokies' center fielder and better hitters, play well and drive in the game winning run against Clemson.  He is from my town of Ashburn and I've met him a few times.

But Andrew Rash, Austin Wates, Steve Domecus, closer Ben Rowen are all guys I want to watch more and follow.  Virginia Tech has another relevant and successful team to follow, and isn't that what we Virginia Tech fans are all about?  Virginia Tech baseball is back, in the very good ACC baseball conference.  Let's hope its there for a while.

I'll be waiting eargely on Monday to hear where we end up in the NCAA regionals.  I honestly don't know how much those get televised or if the Hokie games will be on TV, but I sure hope so because I'll be watching.  If somehow we could advance to the College World Series, that would make this "sports dead zone" a hell of a lot less boring.
