Something tells me that this could be the year that the Hokies surprise the rest of the conference and win the ACC. Why not? Tech has beaten almost every ACC team this season, minus UNC and Clemson. They’ve taken two from Florida State, two from Miami, one from ACC best UVA, and three from a very talented Boston College team.
It seems that when the Hokies have needed to win, they’ve come through in the clutch. This weekend should be no different, as the Hokies will play Georgia Tech on Thursday, Clemson on Friday, and NC State on Saturday. The Hokies avoided NC State this season, lost twice to Clemson, but took two out of three from Georgia Tech in Atlanta.

However, the Hokies did get a little lucky in the pool selections. The other ACC pool features UVA, Florida State, Miami, and Boston College. If Tech had to go through three of those four, I may not have written this article. Instead, the Hokies face a little less of an obstacle-laden road and if they can win two out of three, they will at least give themselves a chance at playing on Sunday.
The good news for Hokie fans is that Tech will be able to start Justin Wright on Thursday followed by future 1st round pick in Jesse Hahn on Friday. Hahn was roughed up against UNC last Saturday but Hahn missed more than a month of action before returning against the Heels. If he can regain his old velocity by Friday, the Hokies have a great shot at winning those first two games.
The NC State game will be a toss up since neither team has met this year. The Hokies will more than likely start Mathew Price, who has amassed a solid 7-3 record on the season.
If Tech does advance to Sunday, they could see any one of the four teams in Pool A. Virginia is the odds on favorite to win it, but something tells me that Pool A is going to come down to a tiebreaker. I don’t see any team making it out of that pool 3-0.
So could this finally be the year that the Hokies win the coveted ACC baseball championship, you’ll just have to tune in this weekend and find out.
