The point spread for this weekend's huge match up between Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech has the Hokies favored by 3 despite being on the road. I expect that to move in the direction of the Hokies. Certainly Georgia Tech is a good team and is coming off a big win at Florida State (I was really pulling for Georgia Tech to pull out its victory Saturday night to make this weekend's game even bigger). But Virginia Tech looked so dominant against BC and I think fans who examine this match up closely will lean more towards the Hokies.
There are also some other interesting point spreads out this week.
I've said many times that I think the VT vs GT rivalry has big potential and my hope has been that it develops into one of those 'tier 2' rivalries that gets national attention. I'm talking a rivalry like Florida - Georgia or USC - Cal or VT - Miami (one where each team has another major rival, but the game has national relevance each year).

This year we get our wish as both teams come in rather hot and the game will as usual likely significantly influence who wins the Coastal Division of the ACC. I also LOVE the 6 pm start time. I plan to tailgate with friends in the backyard during the afternoon before settling into the man cave for game time.
Let's hope the Hokies offense stays hot, Tyrod is on his game, Ryan Williams continues his tear, and the Georgia Tech defense doesn't have any light bulbs come on this week during practice (they've been porous). I believe the key to the game will be the VT defense limiting GT's big plays. I don't like VT's chances playing from several scores behind.
Other games and point spreads that caught my attention:
- Texas -3 vs Oklahoma. We will know by game time whether the #3 team in front of VT will have passed a big test or not.
- Wisconsin -3 vs Iowa. Iowa is the Big 10's darling but they don't get respect from Vegas in Madison.
- Georgia -7.5 at Vandy. My friends in Atlanta say folks are not happy in the Dawg Nation. Vandy lost to Army last week.
- Temple -9 over Army. Don't look now but Temple is 3-2 and actually decent.
- BC -2.5 over UNC. I wouldn't pick either team to beat anyone based on what I've seen. Should be ugly.
- USC -10.5 at Notre Dame. Notre Dame actually has a better offense in my opinion.
- Boo Hoos -4 at Maryland. 2 relatively rejuvenated teams.
Its a huge weekend for Virginia Tech football. Our game will share the spotline with the Red River rivalry and USC / ND for prime attention, and not to get ahead of ourselves, but the BCS standings come out Sunday as well.
Let's hope the Hokie defense is deep into their spread option defense game planning.
Go Hokies!!
