If you didn't know that there was something going on called the Junior World Football Championshipsthe last few weeks, you are not alone. Despite Americans love of football and anything with the red, white, and blue on it, this inaugural 8 nation tournament of American football held in Caton, Ohio the last 2 weeks didn't get much attention. However Team USA despite being the second seed to #1 seed Canada (someone explain that) found a way to win the championship game by routing everyone in their way (surprise, surprise).
Why is this relevant to the Hokie Nation? Well one of Virginia Tech's incoming recruits used this tournament show off some things that should that get Hokie fans excited.

The JWC is for amateurs and the USA squad is mostly graduated high school seniors, which was put together through high school football association nominations and coaches selections. One of the players from the state of Virginia selected for the squad was running back David Wilson from George Washington HS in Danville, and let's just say Wilson blew up in the tournament. Now it may not impress you much, running up 180 yards and 4 TDs on teams the likes of France, Mexico, and Canada, but Wilson stood out even on the US squad based on comments from coaches on both sidelines.
Wilson helped the US rout aforementioned #1 seed Canada going 87 yards on 10 attempts and 1 TD in a a 41 to 3 victory. What impressed me more are some of the articles about Wilson that describe his character. His participation on the US squad is truly about representing Team USA, not showcasing his skills, based on his comments in this article. David's older brother serves in the Navy, and he claims he would have followed him were it not for his football opportunities.
I've blogged many times, I believe the running back pipeline is critical to VT, one of the core success criteria for the program along with defense. With guys like Ryan Williams and now David Wilson lined up, things are good.
