An entertaining, important, yet somewhat meaningless game is going to be held this Saturday in Blacksburg, and I wish I could be there to enjoy it, because its certainly more of an 'event' than a game. Instead, I'll be up at 7 am helping my wife get ready for our participation in the neighborhood yard sale, most likely arguing over what should and should not be sold. I'd much rather be by Lane, sporting my Virginia Tech sweatshirt and hopping from tailgate to tailgate enjoying great food, beverage, and Hokie fellowship.
In addition to wishing I was there, here are some other things I hoping to see out of Saturday's game.
- NO INJURIES.
- A good turn out, and good time had by all the fans who travel to the game. Again, this is more of an event, and I heard the Hoos only had 8 - 10K at their game and most are blaming it on the fact there was a Lacrosse game that day. Riiiiiiiigghhht.
- Several sustained, methodical scoring drives. Some cohesive offensive signs would do a lot for our confidence and belief that a more mature 2009 squad really will make a difference. Defense usually dominates these games, but I hope there are some scores, and not just Tyrod Taylor 70 yard scramble types.
- A field corner to emerge. As I've blogged, I think CBs are key to Bud Foster's defense, and for Eddie Whitley, Rashad Carmichael, or Cris Hill to step and take charge of the position would be nice. I see it being Whitely.
- Let the Ryan Williams hype machine rolls. Sounds like due to injuries, he's going to get lots of carries, and I expect some big plays. This will be one more thing to look forward to the fall about.
- Some back up Defensive Ends to play well. Isaiah Hamlette, Joe Jones, are you listening?
- For Marcus Davis to find a place on the field. Kid's talented, and don't want him to end up the next Justin Hamilton.
- The kickers to be solid. We've been spoiled in recent years with incredibly consistent field goal kickers. Its a real luxury (more a relief), and I don't care to go back to worrying about making 35 yard field goals in important situations.
- Solid play from Davon Morgan and Lorenzon Williams. These two budding stars from last year had their play derailed by injury and have struggled to get it back on track. Would be great for them to make big steps on Saturday.
- NO INJURIES
