Woe, These Hokie Hoopsters

I had to listen to the Virginia Tech Basketball game tonight over the internet as I was on the road, and the Hokies lost another close one to the Georgia Bulldogs.  A road game is always difficult, but the Hokies are a more talented team than Georgia and should have won.  From listening to Bill and Mike, the Hokies sounded fatigued in the second half, and some common themes from the year crept up again.

Many have said or written concerning this year's mens basketball team:  there are positives, but there's just something missing.

It has to be killing Coach Seth Greenberg.  Let's face it, his team is guilty of many of the "ills" of a team that doesn't have "it".  They fail to win close games.  They struggle to beat inferior teams, then get up and play well against good teams, only to fall just short.  They are not scrappy as in years past.  They get in foul trouble.  They can't put teams away when they get ahead.  But most of all, against good teams, late in games, you just don't feel they'll rise up and win.

Again, as others have said, there are a lot of good things about this team.  Free throw shooting was a bit of an issue tonight (though it was for Georgia as well), but overall its much improved this year.  They have 3 solid scoring threats in Vassallo, Delaney, and Allen.  I love the potential of freshman Victor Davila.  They have some depth, and it will only help getting J. T. Thompson back.

Let's hope they can shake this off, let's hope there's nothing "in their heads", and let's hope these close games even out over the season.  I'm not exactly sure what "it" is we are missing, but I sure hope "it" shows up soon...

Go Hokies!!

Since I can’t find an email address for Coach Greenburg, please pass along if you can. The team picture on
Hokiesports.com speaks volumes. The dour look on
thier faces suggest they have little enthusiasm; and this after a win. What’s wrong? Where is the excitement, the thrill of playing. The editor shouldn’t post any
more pictures like this one, it even makes me sad when I look at it.

news flash…greenberg cant coach. players have no respect for him. cant get effort out players. jeff allen, witcher, al posts ore soft,\, they play outside in , instead of inside out….basketball gurus will get that. proof, look at valsoallo attempts versus the post players. think coach k has to get players to sign contract to play hard. sont think so!! i like greenberg but hes on the way out. quit bragging about what a great ciach he is and look at the facts. only reason sucess came last year was gaurd play.. look for a bottom half finish thisy year in acc!!!!
