The Hokies and The ACC Championship Game
So does this Virginia Tech football squad seem like an ACC champion group to you? Well, given the inept performance (offense primarily) on Thursday against Miami and that they’ve lost 3 of last 4, I would have to say hardly. But the ACC in both divisions, including the Coastal is a jumbled mess this year, and there are several articles (including this one on ESPN) that lay out the scenarios by which each team, including the Hokies, can still win the division and get to the Championship game in Tampa.
If you look at what it takes for the Hokies to get there, its not that far fetched.
Basically, three things need to happen.
- Miami needs to lose to Georgia Tech on Thursday night. GT is a 3.5 point favorite, and home teams have done well on Thursday nights. Miami has been playing better, but personally I think Georgia Tech will win this game.
- Virginia Tech needs to beat Duke on Saturday. The game is in Blacksburg. Duke is better, the Hokies are down, it should be a ‘game’ not a ‘cake walk’, but does anyone not think the Hokies will win?
- Virginia Tech needs to beat Virginia on 11/29. Again, this will be a competitive game, but the Hokies will be favored and generally do well at home and the Hoos are lousy on the road.
So despite all our despair over the current Hokie difficiencies and struggles, its youth, and its 109th ranked offense, its not at all out of the realm of possibility that the Hokies will be playing in Tampa come December 6th. Who they will play, is a whole other post that I really don’t care to write.
Don’t put away your Hokie Sweatshirts, Jerseys, and Flags yet, there are still important games to be played.
Go Hokies!!!
